Broker or agent — the difference is everything
| Agent | Broker | |
|---|---|---|
| Represents | The insurer | You |
| Product range | One company's products | 30+ companies compared |
| Whose interest at renewal | The insurer's retention | Your best available terms |
| At claim time | Reports to the insurer | Works from your side |
An agent's job is to sell one company's products well. A broker's job is to find the right cover across the market. Both are legitimate — but they are not the same thing, and it is worth knowing which one you are talking to.
Does going through a broker cost more
Then do you just recommend whoever pays you most
No, and the reason is commercial rather than moral. Our business runs on renewals — 98% of our clients stay with us. Placing someone badly to earn more once destroys the thing the business actually depends on.
In practice we show you the comparison. You see which insurers were approached, what each one offered and on what terms. If the recommendation does not follow obviously from that table, ask us why.
Who we work with
We name every insurer we hold an agreement with. The full list is below — we would rather you check it than take our word for the number.
