Boat & Yacht Insurance

Yachts, boats and marine craft

Cover for yachts, motorboats and other marine craft. It handles both the vessel itself and the liability that comes with being on the water — the second part being the one most owners underestimate.

What it covers

Hull and machinery
Damage to the vessel, its engine and its equipment.
Sinking and grounding
Sinking, running aground, collision and storm damage.
Third-party liability
Damage you cause to another vessel, to a marina or to people.
Crew and passengers
Personal accident cover for people on board.
Optional add-ons
Salvage and removal of wreck, cover for the tender, personal effects, cover outside home waters.

What to watch for

  • Sailing outside the navigation area stated in the policy voids cover.
  • Damage during periods of laying up or lifting out may need separate cover.
  • Wear, corrosion and lack of maintenance are not treated as damage.
  • Racing and competitive use generally require a separate agreement.
  • The captain's qualifications and the crew arrangement must match what was declared.

Who it is for

Owners of yachts and motorboats, and anyone chartering out their vessel. The commercial use case has different requirements and needs to be declared.

What we add as a broker

Marine cover is written far less uniformly than motor or home, and the wording differs sharply between insurers — navigation limits and salvage costs especially. This is a market where reading the policy properly is the whole job, and it is the part we do before you sign.

Frequently asked

Is my boat covered while it is out of the water?
Not automatically. Periods ashore and the lifting operation itself are often handled by a separate clause. It is one of the first things we check.
What decides the price?
The value and age of the vessel, its type, the navigation area and the experience of whoever is at the helm. The navigation area often moves the price more than owners expect.
Can I sail to Greek waters on a Turkish policy?
Only if the navigation area in your policy allows it. Cruising outside the stated area leaves you uninsured, so extend it before you go, not after.
