Frequently asked questions
From getting a quote to switching insurers — the 31 questions we are asked most, answered.
How we work as a broker
What is the difference between a broker and an agent?
An agent represents one insurance company and sells its products. A broker represents you and compares the market. We hold direct agreements with more than 30 insurers and place you with whichever one fits, rather than with whichever one we work for.
Does going through you cost more than buying directly?
No. The same policy bought directly from the insurer costs exactly the same. A broker's income comes from the insurer, not from a charge added to your premium, which is why the comparison is free.
Since you earn commission, do you just recommend the insurer that pays you most?
No — and the reason is commercial. Our business runs on renewals; 98% of clients stay with us. Placing someone badly to earn more once would destroy exactly what the business depends on. You also see the comparison, so you can check the recommendation against it.
Do you work with English-speaking clients?
Yes. We work in Turkish and English daily, with both individuals living in Turkey and international companies operating here. Say at the outset that you would prefer English and your adviser will work in English throughout.
Are you regulated?
Yes. Zenith Sigorta Aracılık Hizmetleri Ltd. Şti. is registered on the TOBB broker register and supervised by SEDDK, the Turkish insurance and private pension regulator. Our register number is in the footer of every page.
Quotes and policies
How do I get a quote?
Tell us what you need — by phone, email or live chat. We ask enough questions to compare properly, then come back with the offers side by side rather than with a single figure.
What information do you need from me?
It depends on the product. For a car it is the registration and the driver details; for a home, the address, size and construction; for health, age and medical history; for a business, what you actually do and where. We will ask for exactly what is needed and not more.
How long does it take?
Straightforward personal lines usually come back the same day. Business placements take longer because they are negotiated rather than quoted from a tariff — we will tell you at the start what to expect.
Am I committed once I ask for a quote?
No. A quote is an offer, not a contract. Nothing starts until you confirm and the premium is paid.
Can I see the comparison rather than just your recommendation?
Yes, and we would rather you did. You see which insurers were approached, what each offered and on what terms. If the recommendation does not follow obviously from that table, ask us why.
How do I receive the policy?
By email, as a PDF, together with a plain-language summary of what it covers and what it does not. Keep the policy number somewhere you can find it quickly.
Payment and renewal
Can I pay in instalments?
On most products, yes. The number of instalments and whether a card charge applies varies by insurer; we show the options at the quote stage.
When does cover start?
Normally when the policy is issued and the first payment is made. Cover cannot be backdated to before the policy was written, which is why it is worth arranging before rather than after.
What happens at renewal?
Before every renewal we re-scan the market. If the same cover is available for less elsewhere, we tell you. Nothing renews automatically without you seeing what the alternatives were.
What if I want to cancel mid-term?
Most policies can be cancelled, with the unused premium refunded on a pro-rata basis less any deductions set out in the policy. Compulsory covers such as traffic insurance and DASK have their own rules.
Will my premium go up after a claim?
On motor policies a claim moves you down the no-claims scale, which raises the next premium. On other lines it depends on the claim and the insurer. We tell you what a claim will cost you at renewal before you decide whether to make it.
Changes to your policy
How do I change something on my policy?
One message is enough. Extra cover, a change of address, a new vehicle, adding someone — all of it is done by endorsement and your adviser handles it with the insurer.
I have moved house. What do I need to do?
Tell us before the move. Home and contents cover is tied to the address, and a policy pointing at your old flat does not follow you to the new one.
I have changed my car. Does the policy transfer?
Kasko is endorsed onto the new vehicle with the premium adjusted. Traffic insurance follows the vehicle rather than the driver, so the timing at transfer matters — talk to us before the sale completes.
My business has started doing something new. Does that matter?
Yes, more than most people expect. Business policies cover the activities described in them. A new activity that has not been declared can fall outside the cover entirely.
Personal cover
Is DASK enough on its own?
No. DASK covers earthquake damage to the structure only, up to a limit set each year, and pays nothing for your belongings. Fire, theft and water damage sit outside it entirely. Home insurance is what closes those gaps.
What is the difference between kasko and traffic insurance?
Traffic insurance is compulsory and pays for damage you cause to other people. Kasko is optional and pays for damage to your own car. Neither replaces the other.
What insurance do I need for a residence permit?
Foreign nationals applying for or renewing a residence permit must hold valid health insurance. Not every private health policy is accepted for this purpose, so tell us that is what the cover is for and we will place you on a product that qualifies.
I have SGK. Do I need private health insurance as well?
SGK gives you state hospitals and covers part of the cost at contracted private hospitals. Private health insurance is what gets you into private hospitals without the difference falling on you. Complementary health insurance sits between the two at a lower cost.
I am renting. What should I insure?
Your own belongings and your liability. The structure is the landlord's responsibility, but a burst pipe that floods the flat below can quickly become yours.
I have a pre-existing medical condition. Can I get health cover?
Often yes, but the terms vary widely — some insurers exclude it, some accept it with a loading, some after a waiting period. This is the single strongest reason to compare rather than accept the first quote.
Business cover
How is a business policy managed differently?
Business clients get a dedicated account manager and a separate discipline — group health and life, fleet, cargo, construction and engineering, liability. Personal clients get a single adviser. Both sides keep one point of contact.
How many employees do we need for a group health plan?
It varies by insurer; some write groups from a handful of people. We check which insurers are comfortable at your size before approaching the market.
Our tender specifies particular insurance. Can you match it?
That is the normal starting point for construction and engineering work. Send us the insurance clause and we build the placement to satisfy it, rather than quoting a standard product and hoping it fits.
SGK covers workplace accidents. Why would we need employer liability?
SGK pays its own scale of benefits and then has a right of recourse against the employer where fault is established. Employer liability is what stands between that recourse claim and the company.
How many vehicles make a fleet?
Thresholds differ by insurer and are often lower than operators expect. The benefit is not only administrative: a fleet is rated on its own claims record rather than vehicle by vehicle.
