Construction & Engineering
All risk and machinery breakdown
Cover for construction projects and the machinery that runs them. Contractors all-risk covers the works while they are being built; erection all-risk covers installation; machinery breakdown covers the equipment once it is operating.
What it covers
What to watch for
- Design error is either excluded or covered only under a specific extension.
- Delay, loss of profit and contractual penalties are outside the physical damage cover.
- Cover for existing structures on the site must be arranged separately.
- Extending the project timetable requires the policy period to be extended too.
- Failures caused by inadequate testing during commissioning are frequently excluded.
Who it is for
Contractors, employers, plant operators and anyone whose tender documents require insurance in a specified form.
On construction work the insurance clause in the contract usually decides the policy, not the other way round. We read the tender or contract wording first and build cover that satisfies it — which avoids the far more expensive discovery, months in, that the policy does not match what was signed.
