Switching insurers without losing anything

Changing company is normal and usually cheaper. There are three things that can go wrong, and all three are avoidable.

There is no loyalty bonus worth the money in Turkish insurance. Re-comparing at renewal is normal practice, and it is the single easiest saving available to most households. Three things are worth handling carefully.

1. Do not leave a gap

The new policy should start the day the old one ends. Even a day uninsured is a day you are exposed, and on motor cover a lapse can cost your no-claims step.

2. Compare like with like

A cheaper premium for narrower cover is not a saving. Line the policies up on the same cover set — excess, replacement car, glass, natural events — before comparing prices.

3. Carry your history across

Your claims record and no-claims step follow you. Make sure the new insurer has them, because a quote priced without them is not the quote you should be accepting.

Where health policies are different

Health insurance is the one place where switching needs real care. A new insurer may treat conditions that developed during your previous policy as pre-existing. Before moving a health policy, get that specific point in writing.

We re-scan the market before every renewal as a matter of course. If the existing insurer is still the best answer, we say so — that is also a useful result.
